“MTV Shuga” is a long-running drama series and multimedia campaign that follows the lives of young people on the African continent.
Over four series, the drama has crossed the continent from Kenya to Nigeria and touched on numerous plotlines relating to HIV and safe sex including HIV testing, stigma, living with HIV, mother to child transmission, transactional sex, gender based violence and condom use. In South Africa, it was the most watched drama when series 3 aired on SABC1 and now Series 5, called MTV Shuga Down South, will be set right here in South Africa and Marie Stopes is proud to be one MTV Shuga Series 5 partners!
The show tackles sexual and reproductive healthcare issues to help educate young people in South African youth and not only does it provide young women and men with vital information, but it does so in a way that is responsive to their needs and experiences, and does not further stigmatise their sexuality. Now who wouldn’t want to be a part of that!
We look forward to engaging with all #Shugafam on some of the sexual health topics that #MTVShugaDS will be addressing.
