The national Marie Stopes call centre in Cape Town receives as many as 300 phone calls a day from people around the country. The effervescent Octavia Tema, our customer support lead in the call centre, has been on the receiving end of these phone lines for the last six years. She shares what it’s like to be on call.
Siyabonga, 23, was one of the first in his community in KwaZulu-Natal to go to the Marie Stopes South Africa clinic for a medical circumcision. “Now I’m saying to others go and get this circ, it’s not bad like you think it’s gonna be,” he says. Siyabonga reports that, “it was not very painful. I thought it would be very painful but it was not.”
