Safe Abortion (Termination of Pregnancy)
According to the Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1996 "a pregnancy can be terminated upon request of a woman during the first 12 weeks of the gestation period of her pregnancy;  from the 13 th up to and including the 20 th week of the gestation period if a medical practitioner, after consultation with the pregnant woman, is of the opinion that - (i) the continued pregnancy would pose a risk of injury to the woman's physical or mental health;  or (ii) there exists a substantial risk that the fetus would suffer from a severe physical or mental abnormality; or  (iii) the pregnancy resulted from rape or incest;  or (iv) the continued pregnancy would significantly affect the social or economic circumstances of the woman;".

At Marie Stopes Clinics  we perform the procedure on women who are totally willing and convinced of their decision. We always do a full examination, including a sonar scan of the uterus before and after the TOP procedure.  The counseling that patients receive prior to the procedure includes a stipulation that they must agree to a recognized method of contraception before they leave the clinic.  All patients have a choice of receiving certain pills free of charge, or choosing another method of contraception.  Patients are required to return for a check-up visit after two weeks.  However, should they require assistance at any time, they can call our 24 hrs contact number any time of the day or night.
