CONTRACEPTIVES

Emergency Contraception ( The Morning After Pill ):
•  Emergency contraceptive pills ( ECP )can be taken within 72 hours of the unprotected sex, failed contraceptives, rape, the condom broke.
•  ECP doesn't cause an abortion, doesn't cause birth effects if pregnancy occurs and is not dangerous to a woman's health.
•  Take 2 pills immediately and 2 pills 12 hours later. If vomiting occurs within 2 hrs of taking it, the dose must be repeated.
•  ECP can fail, therefore condoms must be used immediately till the next menstruation, which might be delayed.
•  It is advisable to discuss future contraception with your health care provider, since ECP can't be used as a method of contraception.
•  If it is more than 72 hours but less than 120 hours after the unprotected sex, an Intra Uterine Contraceptive Device can be inserted. Discuss this with your healthcare provider.

Male Condoms:
•  Use a new condom for each act of sex.
•  Before any physical contact, place the condom on the tip of the erect penis with the rolled side out.
•  Unroll the condom all the way to the base of the erect penis. Only use water based lubricants on the condoms.
•  Immediately after ejaculation, hold the rim of the condom in place and withdraw the penis while it is still erect.
•  Dispose of the used condom safely.
